In the past, environmentally friendly or energy efficient homes had a reputation for being rather alternative and not something that the average family could really see themselves living in. That perception has been well and truly challenged and home builders now understand that it is possible to build great looking, well designed homes which are also efficient and comfortable to live in.
The first and most important step in building an energy efficient home is to correctly orientate it on the land in order to take full advantage of all the basic ‘freebies’. These ‘freebies’ include good cross flow ventilation, thermal mass and sunlight inclusion (winter) and exclusion (summer).
Once these basics have been designed into a home, additional features may then be added to make it work more efficiently, for example, low e glass, LED lighting, photovoltaic cells, solar panels, rainwater tanks, grey water system and of course, energy efficient appliances and plumbing fixtures.
Eco-Logical Building understands the principles of good sustainable design and is committed to helping clients achieve their goal by working with them to build a beautiful home that is also practical and efficient.
